Short-form videos, popularized by TikTok and Instagram Reels, are now among the most widely consumed types of content globally. These videos, often lasting anywhere from 15 seconds to a few minutes, are designed to grab and maintain a learner’s attention—a critical factor in today’s fast-paced, attention-limited world. The compact nature of these videos makes them perfect for casual, yet effective, learning.
TikTok’s commitment to educational content is exemplified by its #LearnOnTikTok initiative. Launched in May 2020 with a $50 million Creative Learning Fund, this program brought together educational organizations, museums, and influencers to create informative content. Since its inception, #LearnOnTikTok has accumulated over 282.8 billion views, showcasing the immense appetite for learning on the platform.

The platform’s short-form video format is well-suited for demonstrating complex concepts in a simple, digestible manner. Educators and STEM enthusiasts use TikTok to create content that ranges from coding tutorials and engineering projects to science experiments and math problem-solving techniques.
Creators like Science Sam and Engineer Emily break down intricate STEM topics into engaging, easy-to-understand segments. These videos often include demonstrations, real-world applications, and interactive challenges that encourage viewers to participate or replicate experiments at home. While TikTok’s role in education continues to grow, it is not without its controversies. Concerns about data privacy have led to proposed or enacted bans in various regions, including the U.S., U.K., and E.U. The potential for data harvesting has raised alarms, and while the long-term effects of these bans remain uncertain, students have expressed concerns. A survey by The Intelligent found that one-third of students believe that losing TikTok would negatively affect their learning.

As TikTok continues to evolve, so does its role in the educational landscape. The platform’s emphasis on short, interactive videos and the fostering of niche learning communities makes it a unique player in the realm of digital education. Despite challenges related to data privacy, the integration of TikTok into learning practices appears to be here to stay, driven by an ever-growing demand for accessible, engaging, and community-focused educational content.

The judging process will commence immediately after the deadline, with each entry reviewed according to category-specific criteria. Applicants will be informed of their results on the official notification date, and winners will be announced on December 12, during a livestream ceremony open to friends, family, and supporters.
